Cardiothoracic Surgery: Our multidisciplinary team is headed by world-renown pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons. With a surgical practice at Children’s Hospital Oakland and at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, Frank Hanley, MD, and his associates Olaf Reinhartz, MD, and V. Mohan Reddy, MD, provide our program with a breadth and depth of experience unrivaled in the western United States. All cardiac surgical cases are performed under the care of a select group of pediatric anesthesiologists.
Cardiac Catheterization Services: The center features a new, fully-digital cardiac catheterization laboratory, equipped to provide low-radiation assessment and interventional treatment for children of all ages, from premature infants as small as 1,200 grams to young adults. All catheterization procedures are performed under the care of a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist.
Cardiac Anesthesia: Our cardiac anesthesiology team provides state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient anesthesia services for children undergoing heart surgery, diagnostic and interventional catheterization, non-invasive cardiac imaging, and other cardiac repairs. All of our pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists are highly trained to work with the anesthetic and perioperative needs of children, and we hand-select only the top medical providers in the field.
Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging: The center’s dedicated cardiac MRI and CT service unites board-certified pediatric radiologists and cardiologists in the management and interpretation of all studies. Our expertise in non-invasive cardiac imaging has decreased our reliance on more invasive diagnostic procedures. Additionally, we are able to perform MRI studies under light sedation in lieu of general anesthesia.
Cardiology: Attending cardiologists supervise all aspects of cardiac care—from diagnostic testing to therapy, to follow-up—tailoring a care plan for the individual patient to ensure the best outcomes. Our patients receive consistent, personalized care from our dedicated pediatric cardiologists throughout their lives.
Electrophysiology & Arrhythmia Management: Children’s electrophysiology service provides state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment of children with all forms of heart rhythm disorders. Our electrophysiology and ablation service are provided in collaboration with our colleagues at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, combining the expertise of our electrophysiologists, dedicated cardiac nurses, pediatric anesthesiologists and surgeons.
Cardiovascular Intensive Care: Dedicated pediatric cardiac intensivists share the responsibility of caring for patients in the pediatric ICU alongside our board-certified pediatric intensivists. Our co-management approach to care ensures that co-morbidities are closely monitored—providing our cardiac patients with the safest possible post-operative environment.
Fetal Cardiology: If a congenital heart condition is suspected, Children’s Heart Center cardiologists are able to make a diagnosis and begin a plan of care well in advance of the baby’s delivery. Our full-service fetal diagnostic program, including Fetal MRI, is one of the largest in Northern California—providing an unparalleled level of diagnostic accuracy.
Healthy Hearts Program: Children’s is a supporter of Healthy Hearts, a multi-disciplinary program designed to help overweight and obese children reverse their abnormal weight gain and move in a direction of healthy growth towards adulthood with the capacity to make positive and sustainable lifestyle choices. The program is open to youth between the ages of 2 and 18 who are overweight or of normal weight but have family risk factors for hyperlipidemia, hypertension or diabetes.
