Neuropsychology Assessment Service

The Neuropsychology Assessment Service at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland provides in-depth assessment and treatment planning for children of all ages who have acquired or developmental cognitive/learning difficulties. The comprehensive assessment process provides a window into the child’s developing mind and into his or her pattern of strengths and weaknesses. The assessment is done not only to diagnose the nature of the child’s cognitive difficulties, but also to understand the “whole child.” The results are used to develop an individualized treatment plan with effective and realistic expectations.

We see children with neurological conditions such as epilepsy or brain tumors; known or suspected ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities; genetic disorders including fragile X and Down’s syndrome; pervasive developmental disorders as seen with autism and Asperger’s disorder; and general medical conditions such as sickle cell disease and leukemia.
