Dr. Barbara Staggers knew Angelique (age 18) before she entered adolescence and will see her grow out of it. Angelique first came to Children's in 1993, and Dr. Staggers has helped her weather the challenges of being an urban teenager. Together, they made sure that Angelique's health—in the broadest sense, beyond the physical—was maintained and supported.
The Department of Adolescent Medicine at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland provides comprehensive medical, psychosocial and psychobiological services for youth starting at age 11. The program also treats females under age 11 who have reached physical maturity.
Our specially trained team looks at all aspects of an adolescent’s life to help address the many medical and mental health issues they face. Our team is experienced with issues such as routine preventative care, immunizations, asthma, obesity, nutrition, sports physicals, mental health, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, physical and sexual assault, as well as management of chronic medical conditions.
We have three sites to serve you and all serve as national models for adolescent healthcare.
