A hospitalized child has a lot to think about. Expressing these thoughts and fears creatively can make a healthy difference.
Supported by and funded through the Art for Life Foundation, these therapeutic activities encourage children and visitors to express their feelings, hopes and fears through art. Children's Hospital and Art for Life Foundation staff believe that art is a natural part of a child's life, serving as a connection point between the mind and body and is an important link in a child's ability to heal on every level. Art While You Wait
In any hospital emergency room, waiting areas tend to be places where the fears and hopes or simple boredom of patients and their families can make for a stressful experience. At Children's Hospital, a variety of art and crafts materials and guided projects are available to patients and their siblings waiting for treatment in the Emergency Department as well as in other clinic waiting rooms. In addition to being fun, the creative process offers kids an outlet to explore and understand emotions such as nervousness and fear.
Ceramics and Kids
Offered once a month in the hospital schoolroom, the Ceramics and Kids program is a favorite time for many kids. Cats and dogs, hippos and alligators, mermaids and dinosaurs... Each month there is a new theme that brings inspiration to children who paint the various pieces that go with it.
